  18. There have been several inquiries as to how to obtain the APX Professional
  19. Papers Competition rules and templates.  They are posted on several online
  20. services and we are requesting anyone who obtains these files to please post
  21. them on BBS's and networks so the intire community may have access to this
  22. opportunity.  You will find an original press release at the end of this letter
  23. telling you the basics, but you must download the files to get a clear picture
  24. of how to participate in the PPC '90.

  69. MACINTOSH PROFESSIONAL PAPERS CONTEST OFF AND RUNNING

  72. Macintosh developers, professionals and scholars worldwide with original ideas
  73. for using the Macintosh computer are invited to submit a 10-to-20 page paper
  74. for the second Annual Professional Papers Competition. The deadline for
  75. submitting papers is March 15, 1990.
  76.  
  77. Sponsored by the Apple Professional Exchange, or APX, the competition aims to
  78. encourage Macintosh development. With membership composed of developers,
  79. corporations and universities, APX is the largest professional association in
  80. the world dedicated solely to the creation and distribution of products
  81. designed to enhance the Macintosh™ computer.

  83. The top paper in this year's competition will be published in a leading
  84. Macintosh journal. Fifteen top winners will be selected and announced next July
  85. by an APX panel of scientists and professionals. Winners will receive a variety
  86. of hardware and software prizes. First place winners will receive
  87. all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to attend the awards dinner at the
  88. Macintosh Business Conference and Exposition.

  90. Topics should address industry and academic uses of the Macintosh computer, and
  91. this year's judges are encouraging papers on multimedia, hypermedia, database
  92. technology, AI, communications, networking, and education. Last year's winners
  93. delved into such areas as "Searching for Information from a Medical Dynabook";
  94. "Database Liberation"; and "An AppleTalk Performance Investigation."
